This is kind of a 'n00b' question, but I wonder... I've got a couple of your full-tutorials (FM2 and Dark Valkyrie), and I started with FM2. I see you basically use two brushes, a soft-edged and a hard edged. I also see that you vary the opacity of the brush when painting, and that's where my question arises: you're like sometimes using a 50% opac. and painting around, however I don't see the "overlaps" between strokes in what you're doing... when I paint with opacity lower than 100%, if there's an overlap in the strokes there will be a darker color there, but when I see your video everything has a uniform shade. What am I missing there? It's really frustrating because it's something very basic, is not related to art at all but to basic usage of PS! And I just get muddier results than expected, *sigh*!
I hope you or anyone could give me a hint here :)
Thx!
If you paint over 70% you can get away with hard edge.
Sometimes I paint on normal layer on top, and use soft edge brush to erase.
Make sense?
I think what he meant Xia .when he has his brush set to 50% opacity and paints a line. Then draws over the top of that line with the same brush setting , the two lines over lap creating a darker color. He wants to know how you manage to keep the color from multiplying and staying as a single color and opacity.
I dont actually know the answer to this tho, i tend to have the same problem :D I just avoid goin over the same spot :S lol
Generally you won't get an overlap colour if you do the whole thing in one "stroke".
Like in Xia's tutorial's after he's done the primarilary sketch he fills over the top with a midtone. He generally does it all in one "stroke" not moving the pen off the tablet until the whole thing is blocked in.
If you try and do this in several strokes you'll notice the multiplying colour building up. Other than that I can't think of anything else.
Or perhaps it might be a pressure sensitivity issue? It takes a while to get used to using the tablet pen at an even pressure, or perhaps your tablet has a low sensitivity threshold? I don't own a Wacom yet and use a very cheap tablet that's not especially sensitive to pressure gradiations. Maybe you're experiencing a by-product of that?
Hope that helps a little
